This Month's Artist Details:
Following the stunning debut Tomorrow Will Be Like Today, Rand And Holland have been quietly developing their live show into something extraordinary. Their performance last year with Iron and Wine saw them described by local street press as "displaying a unique awareness of instrumental interplay, R+H's set developed into a transfixing performance, think Smog delivering Yo La Tengo as a starting point," and along with rave reviews of their debut album anticipation is steadily building towards the release of their sophomore effort.
Built around the innovative musical approach of stalwart of the experimental music scene, Brett Thompson, Rand and Holland have a unique approach to songwriting that is at once thought provoking and rewarding, sure to have you rethinking your perceptions of arrangement, instrumentation, and the humble pop song.
The Straight Story is the bastard child of Sydney-based sound and video artist Peter Newman. Drawing from such influences as Neu!, My Bloody Valentine and The Dirty Three, as well as Newman's history in experimental laptop sound performance, this six-piece revolving door band offers a framework for structured improvisation within a more conventional rock and fucking roll context.
The current lineup features Sam Worrad and Tim Malfroy (both members of The Holy Soul) who played with Newman in the backing band for famed ex-CAN vocalist Damo Suzuki in 2004. Also featured are Aidan Roberts (The Maple Trail), Jon Hunter (Attack Destroy Machine) and Ivan Lisyak (TMT, ADM, solo), each ex-members of the much lauded but now sadly defunct outfit The Architects, and all of whom appeared in the original Straight Story lineup in 2004.
Mosseisley formed in 1997 as a uniquely Australian response to the motorik sound of the kosmiche brigades and the scorching free rock emanating from takayanagi, fushitsusha and the P.S.F. label.
Featuring "The Stasis Boys", Adam Sussman and Matt Earle, along with Norway's own Inge Olmheim.
